Philippians 3:8-11 (NLT)
else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing
Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else,
counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one
with him…. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that
raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his
death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection
from the dead!
God and Father longs to reveal Himself to us, but until we value knowing
Him more than everything else, we will not passionately pursue knowing
Him personally like we are supposed to, especially with all the
distractions and issues of life. The people of Samaria told the woman
that Jesus met by the well that they believe Jesus, not because of what
she said to them, but because they had met Him for themselves, John
4:28-30, 39-42. May this be our testimony also. Jesus told Peter that it
wasn't flesh and blood or any man that had revealed His identity to
Peter but God the Father, Matt.16:13-17.
The sons of Sceva were disappointed because they didn't know God for
themselves. They were trying to act out and imitate someone else's
knowledge of God, Acts 19:13-17. Instead, imitate the Berean believers
who, despite how great and anointed Apostle Paul was, chose to study the
scriptures independently to ensure that what he was saying to them was
accurate, Acts 17:10-11. They maintained a real and personal
relationship with God.
There is so much about God that we need to know and abundantly fill
ourselves with; from His love, to His ways, to the things He has done
for us in Christ, to spiritual gifts, abilities and assignments He has
given us. Jesus is the perfect reflection of God the Father (Heb.1:3)
and as such, to really know Him, we have to know Jesus. This is why
Apostle Paul spoke about knowing Jesus the way he did in our text above.
The more we know Jesus, the more we will be transformed into His
likeness by the Spirit, 2 Cor.3:18.
PRAYER FOCUS: Pray in the Spirit right now and receive grace to
know Jesus more and be transformed into His likeness even more.
